Last Updated: March 29, 2026

Regulatory Alignment: O. Reg. 52/26 (Effective July 1, 2026)

Welcome to Focus Literacy. By accessing our applications and diagnostic literacy tools, you agree to the following terms and privacy protections. These terms are designed to protect both the student user and the proprietary intellectual property of Focus Literacy.

1. Educational Integrity & AI Disclosure

Focus Literacy is founded by a 30-year veteran educator and curriculum architect. Our applications utilize advanced Large Language Models (LLMs) to provide high-frequency literacy feedback.

  • Curriculum Alignment: Our tools are specifically architected to support the 2023 Ontario Language Curriculum (Strands B, C, and D).

  • AI Transparency: In accordance with the Enhancing Digital Security and Trust Act, 2024, users are notified that this software utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate real-time feedback.

  • Human-in-the-Loop: AI-generated feedback is a supportive educational tool and is not a substitute for professional teacher assessment. All final academic evaluations remain the responsibility of the human educator.

2. Privacy by Design (Zero-PII Policy)

To ensure the highest level of student protection and compliance with O. Reg. 52/26, Focus Literacy operates a strict "Data Minimization" environment.

  • No Name Collection: Focus Literacy does not collect, request, or store the legal names of students. Accounts are managed via anonymous alphanumeric identifiers.

  • No AI Training: Student writing samples are processed for immediate feedback only. We do not use student data to train, improve, or "fine-tune" third-party AI models.

  • Right to Erasure: Any student (or parent of a student under 16) may request the immediate and permanent deletion of their account data and associated metadata at any time.

3. Intellectual Property & Academic Integrity

  • Proprietary Rights: All curriculum frameworks, diagnostic logic, and instructional methodologies are the exclusive intellectual property of Focus Literacy. Unauthorized reproduction, "scoping," or commercial licensing of these proprietary structures is strictly prohibited.

  • Student Ownership: Students retain 100% copyright ownership of all original essays and creative works produced within the application.

  • Fair Use: Users agree to use Focus Literacy tools as supplemental learning aids. Use of the software to bypass school academic integrity policies or to generate fraudulent work is prohibited.

4. Service Level & Liability

  • Service Delivery: Focus Literacy is provided on an "as-is" basis. While we utilize enterprise-grade cloud architecture, we are not liable for service interruptions caused by third-party outages.

  • Limitation of Liability: Focus Literacy is not responsible for any impact on academic grades, university admissions, or missed deadlines resulting from technical issues or the interpretation of AI-generated feedback.

5. Termination of Use

Focus Literacy reserves the right to suspend or terminate access for any user found to be in violation of these terms, including attempting to reverse-engineer the application's AI logic or proprietary curriculum frameworks.

Educational Compliance: Focus Literacy applications are architected in strict alignment with the 2023 Ontario Language Curriculum (Strands B, C, and D), and Ontario Literacy Curriculum Guidelines. Our AI-integrated diagnostic tools operate under the Enhancing Digital Security and Trust Act, 2024, ensuring that all student data is handled with the transparency required by O. Reg. 52/26. We do not use student data for third-party marketing or model training.
